Mountain Biking
Mountain biking is the fastest activity at
Cheerio Adventures. All bikes and helmets are provided for programs. The
bikes are mountain bikes, with front shocks.
The level and experience required ranges from little to
moderate. The basic requirement is that the participant can ride a bike.
The amount of biking and degree of difficulty ranges from
4-day novice for New River Adventure
to 3 day intermediate for Seekers.
On all programs the trails are selected so that they are within the abilities
of the participants. Cheerio Adventures wants to make sure that all participants
have the chance to succeed, be challenged and overcome obstacles.
There
are two types of trails used by Cheerio Adventures. One being Rails to
Trails and the other single-track trails. The Rails to Trails are old
railroad grade that have been converted into hike, bike and horse trails.
The two that are used in the Cheerio Adventures program are the Virginia
Creeper Trail and the New River Trail State Park. Both are for beginners
and intermediates being that they are smooth, wide and have no obstacles.
New River Adventure use these trails.
The single-track trails are hiking and horse trails that
are paths 2 to 4 feet wide. They are uneven and have minor obstacles and
creek crossing. These trails are for the novice to intermediate bikers.
The Iron Mountain and Virginia Highlands Horse trail are the two that
we use most often. Groups like the New River Adventure
and Seekers use these trails.
